History of Kirby Engine Systems

Marine Systems, Inc. (MSI) was founded in 1966 as a family-owned business located in Schriever, Louisiana. Although the company originally employed only two people, its goal was always to become the best in its field by providing premium service in support of diesel engines operating in marine equipment.

The company was successful from the beginning and soon began to experience growth and expansion of its services. In 1982, MSI was acquired by Dixie Carriers, Inc., which was a subsidiary of Kirby.  In 1987, MSI began the expansion of its business by acquiring National Marine's diesel operations in Harvey, Louisiana, and Norfolk, Virginia.

To date, Kirby Engine Systems, Inc. (the parent company of Marine Systems, Inc. and Engine Systems, Inc.)  has completed 18 acquisitions which not only diversified the markets the company services but also expanded the product lines. Kirby Engine Systems, Inc. (KES) services all major marine markets and maintains a significant presence in the power generation market.  KES is now a distributor or dealer for a number of diesel engine manufacturers such as EMD,  Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, and John Deere.

Kirby Engine Systems, Inc., continues to look for ways to grow and evolve as it moves toward its original vision to become the best in its field.  The company is committed to improving the quality of services provided in order to exceed the expectations of each customer.
